Another University of Exeter website, run by Professor Roger Burt, this is the premier jumping off point for links to the major mining history related sites in the UK and abroad. No apologies for using it, as it is good, easily accessed and it would be pointless to just duplicate the information it contains. There you will find links to:

• MINING DATABASE This is currently running as a pilot maintained by Adrian Pearce, with the intention of expansion as more site-specific material becomes available on the Internet.

• British Mining Database (Devon and Cornwall) A selection of links to mining history sites in the South-West of England, maintained by Lynette Costello.

• Plymouth Mineral and Mining Club based in Plymouth with interests across South-West England.

• Welsh Mines Society. The organisation of the society is minimal but it produces two excellent weekend field meets per year and a newsletter filled with useful information.

• Merioneth Manganese - Dave Linton's site documenting the disused manganese mines of the former county of Merioneth in north Wales.

• Industrial Archaeology Recordings video compilations covers exploration of Cornish mining sites above and below ground, including Levant winder, Geevor mill in operation, South Crofty underground, Tolgus tin, etc. Plus many other video recordings of metal mines in Britain, Ireland and the USA.
• Ambra Books - specialising in the South-West of England, they carry a good stock of the rarer secondhand books including many mining titles.
• Lesley Aitchison - for manuscripts and documents related to the South-West of England - a useful source for mining documents.
