Peter Frederick Claughton, born
Educated
Served in the Royal Air Force 1963-1986 as an electronics technician. Last posting - RAF Brawdy, Pembrokeshire, as Unit Test Equipment Engineer.
Since leaving the RAF runs a small business retailing parts for Land-Rover / Range-Rover / Discovery vehicles; advising customers on maintenance and servicing of those vehicles.
Consultant in mining history and archaeology. Currently directing the development of a Research Framework for the Archaeology of the Extractive Industries (Mining and Quarrying) in England for the National Association of Mining History Organisations - go to the Research pages at www.namho.org
Academic / Research Interests.
Over 25 years experience in researching the history and archaeology of the extractive industries.
Particularly interested in the mining and smelting of silver-lead ores,
focusing on

Co-owner of the
Conservation Officer and Member of Council for the National Association of Mining History Organisations (NAMHO); a member of the management committee of the mining interest group with TICCIH (the International Committee for the Conservation of the Industrial Heritage); past member of council for the Historical Metallurgy Society; and recently (2004 - 2009) appointed to the UK working group of the European COST (Co-operation in the field of Scientific and Technical Research) Action A27 Understanding pre-industrial structures in rural and mining landscapes (LANDMARKS) .
